Seaholme Primary School

Seaholme Primary School were seeking shade solutions for their school yard. There were three areas that required sails; the playground area, the sandpit and an open area. Having completed jobs at many educational settings in the past, we were happy to help. The final design consisted of a combination of interconnecting and independent Commshade90 shade cloth sails in “Slate” and “Midnight Green”.

Works began after obtainment of all underground service drawings, building permits and engineering certification. A total of 14 holes were excavated at depths of 1500mm to ensure stability of the posts which varied in size to provide that twisting, abstract effect. After the posts were secured, interconnecting sails measuring 8m x 6m were erected and secured with marine grade stainless steel fixings. A 6.5m x 6.5m sail was then installed to cover the sandpit area. Finally, a sail of 10m x 3.8m was erected using three connection points bolted into an existing shipping container which projected out to two posts creating a whole new outdoor space.

The final result was three sun-safe areas where students of Seaholme Primary School can play, learn and enjoy the outdoors. This project demonstrates the versatility of shade sails and how they can be adapted to provide shelter for areas of varying size and shape. We take our work at educational settings very seriously, knowing how imperative it is that our youngest members of the community are safe and protected.
