Grill’d, Adelaide

The Structures By Design team took to the road and crossed the border into South Australia for a meeting with one of our established partners, Grill’d Burgers. We’d worked with Grill’d on a few occasions as they’re always wanting to ensure the best dining experience for their clientele. Having the ability to utilise their outdoor space in all weather conditions allows the restaurant to seat and serve more customers, giving it an advantageous edge over its competitors.

The project in question was at the busy shopping centre in Marion, Adelaide. Grill’d had an existing open outdoor space which was raised & North facing meaning it was subject to strong northerly winds and constant sun. Grill’d had tried umbrellas and other shade solutions but they needed something which gave them the ultimate flexibility to use the space all year round.

Our Bioclimatic Retractable Roof Pergola System stood out as a popular product, often used for pubs and restaurants to provide shade & shelter when required. In addition, x2 Tracked Blinds would be recessed to the front of the system in clear PVC to maintain the outdoor aspect and undisturbed view whilst also providing a barrier against the wind and inclement weather.

3D Modelling and Design was conducted to provide the Grill’d team with the best visualisation of our finished product. The Retractable Awning Pergola was 10.5m in width spanning across the building projecting 5m outward. The system was powder coated in black with Ferrari 502 full blackout PVC skin retrofitted, somfy motorization and runner LED lighting to give Grill’d the ultimate flexibility to use the space during evening hours. Drainage for this 53sqm system was allowed by the pitch of the roof feeding water back into the integrated gutter system with all drainage discharged at water outlets. The final touch was the Tracked Blinds which provide a full-proof wind barrier from top to bottom.

We were incredibly pleased with the end result and the time frame in which we were able to execute this project. We thank Grill’d for the opportunity to present a benchmark shade solution that would distinguish a clear competitive advantage over neighbouring restaurants.
