The Principal of St Monica’s Primary School in Moonee Ponds was seeking additional shade coverage to complement their Junior schoolyard in the same appealing fashion that our previous shade sails had already achieved. With confidence in our work and shading capabilities, they identified the area and scope of works leaving us the freedom to design a structure that provided sufficient schoolyard shade for the kids during school hours whilst not obstructing the open area allowing on-site parking for patrons on weekends.
The design consisted of two shade cloth sails with one measuring 140sqm and the other 60sqm. The sails were anchored to 7 hand-painted posts and were interconnected via stainless steel D-Rings for maximum shading capability.
St Monica’s Primary was so pleased with the final outcome that a couple of weeks later we were asked to conduct a very similar sail design on the middle school campus only 100m away from their junior school. The second shade sail would cover a large area of artificial turf enabling the children to play without posts obstructing their games.
Staff, students and parents are all extremely pleased with the final outcome of both projects and we appreciate St Monica’s trust in our shading capabilities. Attention to detail and careful design process allowed the Structures By Design team to complete these jobs punctually and on budget.
