The Western Hotel

The Hotel came to us enquiring about some effective shade solutions to make their outdoor areas more comfortable and patron friendly in inclement weather conditions. The hotel had recently undergone a massive renovation both internally and externally but the outdoor area had been slightly overlooked in terms of practicality and year-round use.

Due to the nature of the space, multiple shade solutions were designed. The first being two retractable roof systems installed with 7.5m x 5m projection- the high side butting into an existing steel beam. Our posts on the projected low side were installed atop of an existing concrete plinth and behind an existing architectural fence. Our gutter sat atop of the posts catching the rafter beams and the water runoff from the roofs and exiting away from the beer garden to existing drains. Offering protection from both rainfall and sun exposure, the addition of the retractable roofs ensured that this outdoor space could be utilised year-round, making it highly marketable for functions and events. The beauty of these roofs is that you can have them open or closed, or anywhere in between, at the touch of a button.

To further protect and enclose the area, we installed ZipTrak blinds to fit the entire length of the beer garden. These watertight blinds are spring loaded and so easy to use. Ziptrak run in tracks on each side and are housed in a waterproof hood. These blinds are completely waterproof and all the aluminium comes powdercoated with the option of motorisation also.

Finally, we installed the Eclipse Operable Louvres to an existing void space measuring 8m x 3.8m. Originally, there was perspex in the void which did not look appealing and of course didn’t give you the functionality that operable louvres do. Operable Louvres are watertight when closed and rotate at the click of a button to give you control over light, shade and ventilation levels.

Another successful project completed, the client was very satisfied with the overall outcome. We look forward to having a few cold beers in the newly refurbished beer garden with some of the friendly folk in Ballarat.
