Adass Israel School

Garnaut Constructions approached us during the early stages of a recent extension to Adass Israel School in Elsternwick. The team required the design and construct of a shade solution that would provide complete UV protection while making practical and effective use of the narrow and unique space provided. After discussions with the site manager, we decided upon 3 interconnecting sails which would connect on a heavy slope into the high side of the opposing building.

Once engineer certification and compliance took place, four holes where excavated on behalf of the construction group with advised sizes of 1500mm deep. Each hole was concreted with “hold down bolt steel cages” which had 4 threads rising out of the ground level as a fixing point for the posts. The team at SBD Shades then began the installation of four large hot dipped galvanized posts all varying slightly in height and including custom designed base plates to suit the concreted thread. These were propped up and then slotted onto the threads before being bolted down using m16 lock nuts. This ensured complete stability as the specifically designed cages within the concrete catered for the larger size posts.

Installed on a fairly steep gradient, the sails were secured using marine grade stainless steel fittings, fixtures and chains. The client opted for our high-grade commercial Comshade90 Shade Cloth material in black. This material achieved the full purpose of sun protection whilst creating a visually appealing contrast against the red brickwork.

Installation was completed in a timely manner with Adass Israel School expressing their satisfaction with the final result. We thank Garnaut Construction for trusting us with this project and look forward to working with them again in the future.
